Our inaugural youth theatre (weekly rehearsals for 11-18 year olds) production is the epic Rock Opera ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ (JCS), giving young performers the chance to be part of an exciting large-scale musical at the Epstein Theatre with a live professional orchestra.
Participants will work alongside experienced creative teams (who have all worked at the highest professional levels of musical theatre, including the West End, National & International tours) developing their singing, acting and performance skills while rehearsing in a supportive and professional environment.
Performances take place at The Epstein Theatre on 28th – 30th January 2027.
Jesus Christ Superstar is an iconic rock musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, renowned for its powerful storytelling, contemporary score and emotionally driven performances. Telling the story of the final days of Jesus through the perspective of Judas, the production combines rock music, ensemble storytelling and dynamic theatricality in a way that continues to resonate with modern audiences.
For young performers, Jesus Christ Superstar offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to develop a wide range of performance skills. The show demands strong ensemble work, emotional storytelling, vocal versatility and physical energy, encouraging young people to grow in confidence both individually and as part of a company. Its contemporary music and youthful energy make it particularly engaging for emerging performers, while the themes of identity, loyalty, pressure and belonging remain highly relatable for younger generations. As a large-scale ensemble production, it also creates a strong sense of collaboration, creativity and community — values that sit at the heart of the Epstein Theatre Youth Programme.
